OUR CLASSES

Our distinctive and specialised curriculum enables us to let each child engage, grow and achieve skills at their own pace, setting a strong foundation in core water safer skills. We also offer a range of programs within our teaching framework to make the Swimtikes experience even better!

3

Swimming Free at 3

Our Swimming Free at 3 program aims to have our tikelets comfortably and independently propelling themselves through the water by the age of 3.

We achieve this by using a curriculum that allows tikelets to explore how their body moves through the water independently and by encouraging them to new ways of manoeuvring, climbing, and entering and exiting the pool, with a strong emphasis on being safer in and out of the water.

Extra Set of Hands

Need a parents in class for twins, but don't have a consistent second adult to help out in the water?

We've got you covered!

We will provide a second instructor to act as your second adult every week at no additional charge.

Have triplets? We can help there too! We will provide you a class of your own and two instructors at no additional charge.

Winning!

Prep Transition Program

Starting big school can be very exciting, but also very overwhelming, and can have a flow on effect to other things like swimming lessons where often there are changes too such as moving to afternoon classes and teacher changes.

At SwimTikes, we make the move to big school a little earlier with our Prep Transition Program. We offer a free second lesson for a minimum of 2 months to help transition your child into afternoon classes.

By the time your child starts school in January, they have settled in to their new afternoon class routine.

5

Stroking at 5

Following on from our Swimming Free at 3 program, our Stroking at 5 program aims to have our tikelets learning at least one recognized swimming stroke by the age of 5.

This is achieved through a curriculum that focuses on creating strong skill foundations, layering of skills and plenty of opportunities for consistent and correct practice by using both hands on and hands off teaching techniques, with a strong emphasis of being safer in and out of the water.

Tikecicles Club

From June 1st every year we provide unlimited free additional lessons until September. On top of that, for every 10 lessons swam in that period, your tikelet goes in the draw to win back the value of 10 lessons!

This program provides the opportunity to progress faster as correct repetition and consistent frequent practice improves learning a skill faster.

All for the price of one lesson per week!

Remember Summer swimmers are made in Winter!

Private Lessons

Unfortunately we currently do not have any availabilities for private lessons.

If you would still love to join us we would love to have join our small group classes of a maximum of 3 children per class. We would be delighted to help you find the right class for your tikelet.

Levels/Age Groups

 Infants & Toddlers

INFANTS & TODDLERS

At Swimtikes we not only believe in recognising each child as an individual, but that their learned skill sets vary greatly just like their personalities. It is due to this belief that we feel it is more important to place infants and toddlers in levels focused on developmental milestones rather than strict aged-based groupings.

Our Infant program structure, based on our 'Swimming Free At 3' program, is rare in that it not only breaks down our levels by major milestones, but it also caters to each level by providing it with its own purpose-built lesson plan each week, focusing on activities that enhance previously learnt skills and encouraging the acquisition of new milestones through the use of movement and play-based learning.

By mirroring a child's actions on land, we have found through years of experience, that their ability in the water increases at a faster and more fluent rate.

We also offer bridging activities for older infants and toddlers that have not yet participated in swimming lessons so that they can attain the necessary basics such as breath control in a calm and slower paced learning environment before having them happily and smoothly integrate into our 'Swimming Free At 3' program.

Once tikelets have mastered these milestones, they start to progress through our Toddler Transition Level

It is also designed to give caregivers a repertoire of take-home skills to practice with their young ones at home. The added bonus is it's a fantastic long-term bonding experience between caregiver and child.

Toddler Transitions

By far the most rewarding and challenging levels for tikelets, parents, and aquatic educators, our transition levels aim to gradually move parents out of the pool through a smooth and happy process. Tikelets in these levels are generally going through a huge learning phase across all levels of their physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development. And most importantly, they are discovering themselves as individuals. With this discovery comes boundless energy, a much broader range of emotions, greater awareness of others, increased social navigation, and little regard for their personal safety.

Tikelets engage in some familiar activities from our infant and toddler classes, and start to also engage in activities undertaken by our independent swimmers with more assistance from their instructor rather than their care giver. They also spend greater time practicing skills in sitting, listening, taking turns, and waiting.

Most importantly, transition into our independent classes is done at each individual child's pace, not within a set amount of lessons. Our instructors follow the cues given by our tikelets for when they are ready to be in a class situation without their care giver.

Once a tikelet is comfortable solely with their instructor and has shown the maturity necessary for an independent class, they progress through to our Pre-Kindy and Kindy levels .

TODDLE TRANSITIONS
ST_Block_TransitionLevel_CRABS.png

CLASS INFORMATION

Crabs spend an increasing amount of time with their instructor practicing their aquatic and water safety skills and the necessary skills of sitting, listening, sharing, and waiting. Their caregiver provides a gradual decrease in hands-on assistance and will eventually move out of the water completely, leaving their tikelet to enjoy and explore the next stage of their aquatic education solely with their instructor.

Pre-Kindy & Kindy

PRE-KINDY & KINDY

Our tikelets are now ready to be in a class without a primary care giver and have almost graduated from our 'Swimming Free At 3' program and are preparing to undertake our 'Stroking At 5' program.

Just like our 'Swimming Free At 3' program, our 'Stroking At 5' program uses progressive steps to help tikelets put individual skills together to form a whole complex skill. A strong emphasis is placed on developing a solid foundation, gradually adding another layer one after the other to form a whole stroke. Tikelets also continue to strengthen their water safety skills, participating and gaining confidence in activities such as swim float swim and deep water access.

We also encourage tikelets to engage their imaginations and manipulate their bodies to move through the water based on their interpretation of the current week's theme such as their favorite animal or superhero. These opportunities are essential in tikelets building up a stronger trust in the water, and most importantly themselves. It also helps further develop their spatial awareness, co-ordination, and breath control amongst other developmental areas.

New entrants are placed in the level that best matches their current skill set and into a class with children of a similar age where possible. Once a tikelet is either old enough to start Prep or is ready for a Goldfish class they will move through to our School Age classes.

New entrants are placed in the level that best matches their current skill set and into a class with children of a similar age where possible.

At the completion of our School Ages program, our aim is to have our tikelets either meeting or exceeding the National benchmarks for swimming and water safety for 12 year olds. Tikelets then either graduate out of our specialised teaching track to move on to bigger pools or other complimentary water activities such as nipper, or are invited into our Superducks level to prepare them for more competitive squads with our Squad Prep program.

Squad Prep

Our Squad Prep level called Superducks is a class that allows children to prepare for Squads. Swimmers not only refine all 4 strokes, but work on endurance and swimming with a strong technique over longer distances. This level also sees the introduction of starts, turns and finishes, and the basic racing skills. Swimmers also learn the 'little' things to ready them for squad such as how to circulate a lane, squad terminology, and mini sets.

Superducks also gives the opportunity to continue working on their water safety skills and strokes including Survival Backstroke, clothed swims over greater distances, and performing a survival sequence, furthering their advancement on the National benchmarks for swimming and water safety.
